The event, which attracted a large audience both in person and online, was held under the patronage of the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Krzysztof Formicki.
This year’s main theme was ‘Communication between body and mind’. Experts in the fields of neurology, physiotherapy and psychology explained to participants the mechanisms that govern our bodies. During the presentations, we learnt, amongst other things, how the vagus nerve transmits information about illnesses, how physiotherapy and transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) act as a ‘reset button’ for stress, and how crucial early rehabilitation is in preventing complications following a stroke.
The meeting concluded with a reflection on the fact that it is the brain, and not the senses alone, that determines our perception of the world – even when we experience things as mundane as the taste of food on a plate.
The event was organised by the Szczecin Branch of the Polish Copernicus Society of Naturalists (PTPK) and the Human Sciences Section of the PTPK.
