107 applications were selected for the first stage of the competition in the ST (Science and Technology) panel. Only 22 of them received funding. In total, in the three competition panels, 50 people starting their careers in science received grants for employment in institutions, conducting research and internships abroad.
The project entitled Understanding chloride retention behaviour in cement-activated and alkali-activated mixed-water systems to improve durability (DuraSeaCon) concerns the use of Supplementary Cementitious Materials (SCMs) as partial or complete replacements for cement and the role of SCMs in preventing corrosion in reinforced concrete structures. The research is of particular importance for countries at risk of drinking water shortages, as it will enable the development of infrastructure based on high-quality concrete produced using seawater. The total cost of funding from the National Science Centre is PLN 700,437.
