Students from 3W Student Scientific Group received funds for an innovative optic fiber project 18.04.2025 10:30

We are happy to inform that the members of 3W Student Scientific Group supported by 3W Doctoral Candidate Scientific Group received funds in amount of 20 200,00 PLN for developing a scientific project.

The project entitled:  Stable optical fiber damper developed in additive manufacturing within Ministry of Science and Education program entitled Student Scientific Groups Create Innovations (Studenckie koła naukowe tworzą innowacje – project number: SKN/SP/629974/2025) involves designing, simulating and constructing an innovative optical damper for optic-fiber cables developed with the use of 3D print technology. The device is intended to allow precise control of optical power without interference in the cable structure. It will increase photodetectors and amplifiers safety and improve the quality of data transmission in telecommunication and laboratory systems.

The project team comprises 12 students from 3 ZUT faculties: The Faculty of Electrical Engineering, The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics and The Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering. Their competences include, amongst others, mechanical and electronic design, simulation studies and experimental laboratory testing. Additional support will be provided by experienced doctoral candidates as well as the Scientific Group supervisor prof. Patryk Urban. The project manager is Michał Cichowicz MSc.

In addition, in the project participate: Kamila Splinter MSc, Paula Felczak MSc, Bartosz Plotka BSc, Damian Felkel BSc, the student of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering Rafał Wojciechowicz (project coordinator) the student of the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering Jakub Sudol, Kaja Kosmenda MSc, Konrad Walkowiak MSc, Dominika Pytka MSc, Krystian Grześkowiak MSc and Piotr Strobejko MSc.

The scope of work includes, amongst other: performing fatigue testing, preparing technical documentation and presenting the results on conferences and fairs. In the future there is also planned the patent application and the potential commercialization of technology that might be applicable in industry, especially in the West Pomeranian region.

The project not only meets the expectations of the telecommunications industry, but it also aims at developing young talents and promoting scientific activity among students. It is also a perfect example of cooperation between students and PhD students which may result with implementation of a Polish solution on an international scale.
