Recommendations issued by Ministry of Science and Higher Education on coronavirus threat 12.03.2020 13:44

Recommendations issued by the Minister of Science and Higher Education following an emergency meeting of Coordination Group on the threat posed by COVID-19.

It is recommended to observe precautionary measures which can substantially reduce the risk of infection. Everyone is advised to be up to date with the current information published on: www.gov.pl/koronawirus and gis.gov.pl/aktualnosci/.

The Main Sanitary Inspectorate website informs about basic protection methods against the coronavirus and epidemiological and medical procedures (SARS-CoV-2).

In case when there is suspicion that a member of the academic community has been infected with SARS-CoV-2, university authorities should contact Chief Sanitary Inspectorate and follow instructions regarding hospitalization, quarantine or sanitary observation.

Decisions about events involving large numbers of people should be made after consultation with the Governor of West Pomerania. The Governor is also responsible for organising quarantine. Should quarantine be necessary on university premises (e.g. in student halls of residence), the decision should also be consulted with the Governor office.

It is recommended to halt all departures of Polish students, doctoral students, academic teachers and scientific staff to regions threatened by the coronavirus. All arrivals of academic employees and students from those regions should also be stopped. Currently, the list of virus-threatened countries issued by Main Sanitary Inspectorate includes China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Italy, Iran and Japan.

It is recommended to reconsider whether or not to limit academic and business trips to other countries as well.

Depending on how the situation develops, it is recommended to postpone international exchange until the next semester or to continue work or education using remote technologies.

Medical schools should consider suspending or limiting classes taking place in hospital wards with infectious patients. Decisions must be made by respective rectors.

All information regarding the coronavirus threat will be updated and available online (on the websites of the Ministry, Conference of rectors and Poland’s Students’ Union.
